Pre-conference learning is back at Heartland 2019!

Join us on Monday, June 10, for several great pre-conference sessions. All sessions will be either a full day or half day session. Pre-conference sessions are not included in your Heartland registration price. Pre-registration for pre-conference sessions is required. The cost for a half day pre-conference session is $75 and a full day pre-conference session is $125. Make sure and select which pre-conference session you would like to attend when completing your registration.

Wound Care 101: Physiology, Wound Products and Reimbursement

Presented by: Heather Trumm, Director of Wound Care, VGM and Associates and Ronda Buhrmester, Director of Reimbursement, VGM Group, Inc.

Wound care is not going away! The demographics tell the story of where wound care is and where it’s going. We will walk you through the physiology of wound care, the most popular products in the wound care world as it relates to the DME and how to successfully bill for the products.

Learning Objectives

  1. Discuss the physiology of tissue repair, the principles of wound care and factors affecting the healing process
  2. List the various wound care categories that relate to the durable medical equipment business.
  3. Explain how to bill for wound dressings, negative pressure wound therapy and support surfaces per the centers for Medicare and Medicaid.

About Heather Trumm:

Heather Trumm BSN, RN, CWON, Director Wound Care, VGM & Associates

Heather Trumm is the Director of Wound Care at VGM. Heather educates VGM members about the importance of diversifying product selection and incorporating aspects of wound care into their product mix. Heather is a resource for the VGM Community on the topic of wound care, whether you are getting into the field or are experienced in the wound care space. Heather’s past nursing experience encompasses medical/surgical nursing, community and public health nursing, home health care nursing and she also worked in sales for major health care corporations. 

Heather has lectured at conferences, trade shows and seminars all across the country. She is a member of the National Wound Ostomy and Continence Nurses Society, current Public Policy Committee member for the WOCN Society, current nominations committee member for the WOCN Society, Past President for the Iowa Affiliate of the Wound Ostomy and Continence Nurses Society, and a supporter of the National Nurses Association.

About Ronda Buhrmester:

Ronda Buhrmester, Director of Reimbursement, VGM Group, Inc.

As a VGM associate since 2012, Ronda specializes in the billing, reimbursement, and audit area as the Director of Reimbursement.  She managed a hospital-based DME in Illinois for 12 years, and handled sales and marketing.  Ronda is a respiratory therapist as well as a certified mastectomy fitter.  Over 20 years’ experience in the healthcare industry, she assists VGM members with review of claims and all types of audits, and educates members on medical policies in the respiratory and all other general DME products.  She serves on the Jurisdictions B and D respiratory team, is a member of the Provider Outreach and Education teams with the Jurisdictions, and attends the council meetings with all four Jurisdictions. She is also on the Great Lakes Home Medical Services Association Board of Directors and a member the National Supplier Clearinghouse Advisory Council.  Ronda has presented at the VGM Heartland Conference as well as the Medtrade and state association meetings, and has conducted webinars and on-site education with VGM Members.

NEW! Retail University - Brick by Brick: Retail Learning Workshop

We have taken retail education and training to the next level with our new Retail University offering. Retail University has three components: a free, online Associates Degree program, an online Master’s Degree program, and our in-person Brick by Brick Workshops. Through the combination of all three components, members can learn all there is to know about retail, learn what their peers are doing when it comes to retail, and join a community of members with similar business strategies and goals.

Focused around the three core components, or “bricks”, of a successful retail operation – marketing, product and store experience – attendees will learn from their peers and industry experts through open forum, roundtable discussions and hands-on activities.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Explore the process of creating and executing a marketing plan from start to finish, including budgeting, research, design, tracking, analyzing and more.
  2. Learn how to choose the right product for your store and customers, create a process for proper ordering and inventory management, and analyze your business through sales and inventory reports.
  3. Create and manage the ideal store experience through an appealing store design and friendly, well-trained staff

Rob Baumhover, Director of Retail Programs, VGM and Associates

Rob Baumhover is the director of Retail Programs with VGM & Associates. He is the creator of the VGM Retail Program, which assists VGM members to diversify their HME businesses through improved retail operations. Before joining VGM in 2010, Rob worked in a variety of positions with big-box retail companies including Bed, Bath & Beyond, Hobby Lobby, Menards, and Wal-Mart. In his retail career spanning more than 20 years, Rob opened and managed numerous big-box retail stores throughout the Midwest, with responsibilities including the daily operations of stores, the setup of floor plans, ordering merchandise, and the hiring and training of management and sales employees. Rob holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Tteaching from Clarke University in Dubuque, Iowa.
