Heartland 2008 Educational Events
You Belong at Heartland!
These additional events are offered during Heartland 2008. Please follow the registration instructions listed for each event.
For Rehab Professionals:
C.E.A.C. Exam
Monday, June 9, 3:00 pm
New this year to Heartland is the opportunity to obtain the Certified Environment Access Consultant (C.E.A.C.) Credential. The C.E.A.C. is a recognized certification for professionals engaged in environmental accessibility for the aged and/or disabled community.
This event requires separate registration from the Heartland conference. You must register with US Rehab. Contact Amanda at 800-987-7342 to register and order study materials. There is a $150.00 application fee and a $350.00 exam fee.
ATS/ATP REVIEW COURSE
Tuesday & Wednesday, June 10-11 (attend regular conference on Thursday)
This two-day course is a great refresher for those preparing for the RESNA Exam. Included in the rehab track of Heartland, the course will take place at the VGM Headquarters. Those attending the ATS/ATP review course should have at least two or more years of practice in the field. Because of space limitations, select ATS training on your Heartland registration in order to attend.
The course will cover the following:
- Basics of anatomy, biomechanics, and impairment
- Seating and wheeled mobility
- Principles of design and development
- Technologies for persons with sensory impairments
- AAC, ECU, and computer access technologies
- Service delivery
- Test-taking strategies
This course is included with your Heartland registration. No separate registration is required.
RESNA ATS/ATP CREDENTIALING EXAM
Friday, June 13, 9:00 am-1:00 pm
You must register with RESNA for this event, by calling 703-524-6686.
Deadline for registering is May 5, 2008.
Become a RESNA-certified ATS/ATP to ensure your company is ready for the new CMS Accreditation Standards and Local Coverage Determination (LCD) for Power Mobility Devices. The exam will be given at the convention center and four hours are allocated to complete it.
This event requires separate registration from the Heartland conference.To do this, you need to request the exam application forms by visiting the Credentialing Programs section on RESNA’s Web site (www.resna.org). On your forms, please choose the Heartland Conference as your requested exam location.
US REHAB TECH TRAINING
Tuesday, June 10 – Thursday, June 12
This program is developed for the service technician who has been working with power rehab equipment for a minimum of one year. This 3-day program will expand and strengthen the experienced rehab technician’s depth of knowledge and skill. Classes are limited to assure one-on-one intensive training. Classes and tests are limited to paid attendees only, no visitors will be allowed.

Select US Rehab Tech Training as your Attendee Type on the registration form. Registration includes Heartland social events, Exhibit Hall pass, etc. Cost is $345. BILLING BOOT CAMP

Monday, June 9, 9:00 am – 4:00 pm
The Billing and Collections Boot Camp is a fun-filled day of intake, documentation, qualification and auditing processes. You will understand how the denial process should work internally and how to develop processes for verification of timeliness.
Learning Objectives:
- Participants will have an understanding on the importance of the intake process and how to engage it in the office.
- Attendees will know the documentation and qualification procedures of the top equipment provided to beneficiaries.
- If you are audited in the future, you will know how to handle the auditors as well as how to win that audit.
- Attendees will understand the levels of the denial process and how to work a denial efficiently.
Cost for this session is $149 ($199 if not attending the full conference).
Wound Care & Bariatric Academy
Wednesday, June 11, and Thursday, June 12 (attend regular Heartland courses on Tuesday)
The Wound Care and Bariatric Academy is an opportunity to learn more about the tools needed to be successful in these markets. Wound Care and Bariatrics are two fast-emerging fields. Attendees will learn how to increase the bottom line with wound care and bariatrics and why they should become involved.
