Preventing Falls, Entrapment and Skin Problems with Mattresses and Seating

Speaker: Laurie Rappl

Course Description:

Mattresses and seat cushions are recognized as assisting in skin and tissue management. They are equally important in preventing two other potentially dangerous events – falls and entrapment. This presentation will alert the therapist to the frequency of falls from sitting and from bed, the frequency of entrapment within the mattress/bed frame unit, and the frequency of skin breakdown in sitting and in bed. It will also cover equipment features and positioning to address all three dangerous events. Recommended product features and an overview of reimbursement for support surfaces will be covered.
