Applying Lean Thinking Concepts to an HME Operation

Course Description:
This course is designed to introduce HME providers to lean thinking concepts, which were refined and perfected by Toyota in order to improve efficiency and quality. Lean concepts have since been applied to many hospitals and other health care providers with great success. This session is designed to give attendees both knowledge and motivation to apply the same tools and concepts to their businesses in an effort to reduce waste within processes and reduce the costs of inefficient processes. This session will provide attendees with a basic introduction to lean tools and concepts such as value stream mapping, error proofing, standard work, work leveling, and 5S (creating the visual warehouse and office).

- Compare real-world examples of how lean can apply to a typical HME operation
- Discuss how to apply specific lean tools and lean concepts
- Identify waste within processes and learn how to optimize overall workflow
